SuperSmart Retail Workshop on Supermarkets

On 7th April 2018, a ’SuperSmart Retail Workshop on Supermarkets’ took place as part of the 5th IIR Conference on Sustainability and the Cold Chain (ICCC) 2018.

The two-hour workshop presented recent findings by the joint project on supermarkets; the End Use Energy Demand (EUED) Centres, the European H2020 SuperSmart project and the Heat Pumping Technologies (HPT) Annex44 project.

Delivered in Beijing, China to an international audience, the workshop focussed on the international benchmarking of supermarkets, proposed European Eco-label for food retail stores, retail refrigeration roadmap and modelling small food dominated supermarkets as a whole system to improve the efficiency of all subsystems as well as on market and policy trends in the Asian region.

Discussions that took place highlighted the lack of consolidated data for an up-to-date energy benchmarking, the need for simplified but robust models to assist decisions, as well as the penetration of new refrigeration technologies in regions with warm climates.
