CIED’s Schwanen on micro EVs in Guardian article

An article on micro electronic vehicles (EVs) in the Guardian quotes the Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand (CIED)’s Tim Schwanen on the viability of large scale adoption.

The article, (from 11th May) entitled ‘Smaller, lighter, greener: are micro EVs the future of city transport?’ looks at the different options for the future of urban driving and the barriers to them replacing more traditional cars.

Dr Schwanen (of the Transport Studies Unit at the University of Oxford) points out the difficulty for new car manufacturers entering the market, and also the necessity of policy support to push through the user of innovative vehicles. He also raises the possibility of micro EVs being more attractive as part of car sharing or hire schemes rather than private ownership.
