CIE-MAP Vienna Research visit report
Report by CIE-MAP’s Anne Owen
In April four members of CIE-MAP, John Barrett, Anne Owen, Kate Scott and Marco Sakai travelled from Leeds to Vienna on a research visit. The team travelled by train – reducing the environmental impact of the visit and offering the benefit of allowing for time to discuss research and future ideas.
Vienna is home to some of the world’s leading researchers in the field of material accounting. The team visited Stefan Giljum’s group at Wirtschafts Universitat (WU)’s Institute of Ecological Economics to share research ideas around the theme of material consumption-based accounts. WU has some beautiful buildings and is also situated next door to a theme park!
Later, Prof Barrett presented findings from CIE-MAP to the School of Social Ecology at the Alpen-Adria Universitat. It is hoped that the visit will mark the start of future collaborations with colleagues in Vienna and the team returned to Leeds with many new and exciting ideas around materials use which will feed into future CIE-MAP outputs.
